I think the most important thing to remember is they are a human being. Ask them what they want instead of assuming they want something. For example, instead of opening up curtains and saying it's dark in the room, ask them if they'd like the curtains open. Little things like that, so they don't feel helpless.
Check your local phone book for recycling centers and they will most likely buy your cans. Prices are often based on weight, such as pounds. Check with various centers and see how much they pay per pound and go with the highest number.
Aluminum prices vary dramatically however you can normally expect 40-60 cents per pound as a rule. However if for some reason the market is acting crazy then you could very well receive alot less or more.
