I am in the exact same situation that you are in. I am disabled and unable to work out of the house and refuse to accept that I cannot learn another skill. Because of this I have learned the ins and outs of Social Security Disability. At this time it is perfectly acceptable for you to go to school and try to learn a new skill. You do not need to report it unless you are attempting a schedule that would reflect a difference in your physical disability. For instance, if you were able to take classes for 30 to 40 hours a week they would determine that your medical status may have changed and require that you get another medical physical. If your classes are under 2 hours per day you will have no problems whatsoever. Currently persons on SS Disability can earn up to $900 additional income per month. Once you have finished your classes you should call your contact at your local Social Security Disability office and double check the amount because it is subject to change. Best wishes and good luck!

Yes, your VA benefits do not prevent you from applying for Social Security benefits as well. You can submit your application in any of several ways. Most people contact their local Social Security office. In the Stone Mountain area, that would probably be the office at 4365 Shackleford Road, Norcross, GA. You can also call their main toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213. You can also apply for Social Security disability benefits online. Go to http://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/adult.htm to find the online application form.

Go to your local housing department and ask for a list of low income housing facilities in your area. At which point you must apply to each one separately . Be aware that they might put you on a waiting list so I would do this before putting your condo on the market.

Yes there are grants out there for you. Actually since you are living with your daughter, she is entitled to grants as well. Have you ever heard of some thing called a HUD? These are apartments and houses at a lower price to help assist people with disabilities and minorities. Look around in your area. Although many of the company-owned apartment communities might reject you based on a credit check alone, there are many other possibilities available to you. First, I would suggest looking for privately owned apartments so that you can you explain your situation to the landlord directly. Many of those landlords make decisions on a case-by-case basis, and they may agree to lease you an apartment based on your appeal to them. I surmise that you might qualify for the Section 8 program, and that is definitely worth researching if you have a limited income with which to work. If at all possible, I would try to negotiate some sort of deal with your previous apartment community to make a portion of the rent owed; doing so might assist you when explaining your case to prospective landlords. For instance, state that you will pay $10 every month, or any amount you can afford, as an attempt to help settle things with them. There are some legitimate consumer credit agencies that may be able to do this on your behalf so that you don™t have to do so directly. In any case, I am confident that there is a solution out there for your predicament. Hang in there, and good luck!
